PLEASE NOTE: This is a 2-part event; the second part will be on Monday, July 30, 7pm - 9pm

How do we create our reality, moment by moment? Is it possible to shape our future, creating happiness and eliminating suffering? Appreciating how the laws of karma and emptiness (ultimate reality) complement each other answers these vital questions and is an essential distinction of the Buddhist path. Teachings will be combined with periods of discussion and guided meditation.

SPEAKER: Venerable Robina Courtin
Venerable Robina Courtin has been a nun for over 20 years in the Gelugpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. She spent 10 years editing for Wisdom Publications followed by over 5 years as the main editor of Mandala, an international Buddhist newsmagazine. Ven. Robina currently directs the Liberation Prison Project serving several hundred prisoners nationwide, and travels around the world teaching Buddhism to students of all ages and levels. Ven. Robina's prison work was recently profiled in an award-winning documentary, Chasing Buddha.

Who attended?

    •  Ven. Robina offered a wonderful down-to-earth teaching, filled with examples and humor, on this topic of emptiness and dependent arising. It's a topic that is simple to summarize in a few words ("nothing exists inherently from its own side") but extremely difficult to truly understand and internalize. Seven of us from the Triangle Buddhism group and Kadampa Center went to dinner afterwards and had a great conversation about tantra, vows, the various schools of thought on whether objects actually exist at all (from the "hologram" theory all the way to the "everything exists concretely" theory), etc.
