The Denver Philosophy Meetup Group is an informal, mostly unstructured environment for talking about philosophical issues. No formal training is required and the atmosphere is generally inclusive. I prefer discussions to be heated, passionate and interesting, and will do what I can to make that happen at each meeting! I mainly took over as organizer because I love great conversation. I also love philosophy (is that redundant? philo - love of; sophia - wisdom), and I don't often find casual acquaintances that like to talk about it. Mostly, folks seem content to either ignore the 'big questions', or accept on faith what their spiritual leaders and other authorities tell them. Instead, I like to wonder out loud whether or not we have free will, whether we are capable of behaving ethically, whether the mind and body are two things or one, what an artificial mind might look like, and whether meaning is something that we can find or something we should make. I hope to find others with this quirky trait, mix and repeat!
