The Long Beach Philosophy Meetup meets once a month to discuss topics in philosophy. Generally, the focus will be Western philosophy, but all points of view are welcome.

Feel free to initiate a topic with the group by e-mail or show up at the meeting with a topic in mind. When possible, we will select topics for discussion at the preceding meeting. The suggestion of short reading available on the Internet is encouraged for all topics.

For our eighteenth meeting, we will be discussing a topic suggested Uriah. The topic deals with Uriah's personal theory of consciousness. More detail would be revealing too much, but Uriah is anxious to share and defend his view against all challengers. Be there and give Uriah a workout. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. The first twenty minutes or so will be devoted to introductions and settling in. Meetings will end when they are over. Don't worry about being late--come when you can.

I have not been able to attend but a few meetings, but the time spent was well spent...enjoyable and illuminating discussions that are to be recommended.

Juan, I apologize for blowing fog around my theory. I'll soon (probably tonight) be posting a written expression of my theory in the files section here. You'll have plenty of time to evaluate the details of the theory before the next meeting. Uriah

You state that Uriah is "anxious to share and defend his view against all challengers"; but telling us anything about this 'theory' would be telling too much. I don't understand this at all. Telling us more than he has a "theory of consciousness" would be telling too much?? If he is anxious to share and defend, why not give us at least a summary or synopsis of what he will present and defend? It seems that the discussion would benefit from having more detail on the topic.

    •  Chris Bobo's time and attention were uplifting and inspiring.
    •  This was off the scale. Uriah's theory of consciousness is finely tuned and deeply thoughtful. It really opened new avenues of exploration and reflection. Too bad there weren't more thinkers there to explore it.
