Is anybody on this board able to update us on what some of the current problems of bio-science, mathematics, or physics are and where we stand?

Where are we and what are the current issues? I know some of the issues must surely propose conflicts with currently taught issues in school and probably raise issues even possibly to the Supreme Court level.

We are still arguing Darwin (and even post-Darwin memetics) in biology vs Intelligent Design;

Still settling in on the complexities involved in Logic and its relations to Math and Language analysis (ZFC+ sets, etc) to buffer our philosophy discussions; and

The century long bounce to understanding we are in a universe that is better understood as finite-and-unbounded than infinite (and best described in Riemannian terms to glean its nature) is now, of course, being challenged by supersymmetry and multiverse theories (in the wake of M-Theory, bubble and/or parallel universes, e.g.) and some of the super-string positions.

So ... What will finding the God-particle buy us socially for example? In terms of its influences both to the scientific community and to the various religious communities?

Who can get us started in discussion and formal presentations, I wonder?

Jim:

There is a Dichotomy in society to satisfy our primitive development of thought. The intelect is wery weak and requires behavural modification in order to exist. The God-particle buys society the rationale we could use to justify our exisitence. Newton wrote more about theolog than he did about his about physics and alchimy combined, yet he refused to join the church, as a prerequisit for teaching at Trinity College, Cambridge. If the universe is the answer, then what is the question? Some in society may not want the question answered.

Jim,
It sounds like you would be the perfect person to lead such a discussion. All you have to do is define a few terms for us dummies who don't read widely, pose a question, and we would be off to the races!
