During the holiday season, many people reconnect with family and think about the importance of family. However, the definition of family seems to be in a state of flux. The traditional nuclear family seems to be morphing into non-traditional families that include step-family, half-family, family of choice members. So what does it mean to be a family? How do you get into a family? What is the role of family in our lives? Let's talk about family.

It's the perfect time of year to get together and appreciate the fellowship of the Philosphy members.
It is time to put something other than our ideas in the fire.....

Come roast weiners and marshmallows over on outdoor open fire at my place and enjoy good company.

I will provide the appetizers, hotdogs(with a non-pork option), buns, marshmallows, hot cocoa, ketchup and mustard.

I would like have people volunteer to bring...
onions, relish, cheese, chili, etc.
chips, drinks, ice,
paper plates, napkins,
possibly items for s'mores
Please include the item you could bring in your RSVP

RSVP's will be closed the day before so I know how much to buy.

My home is in Spring Branch and I will email the address to the yes RSVP's.
Hope to see you!

I know it's a grim topic, but it is something we all have to face. Many people fear it, some welcome it, few, if any, really understand it. Some think it is an ending, others think it is a beginning. It seems to be something that is necessary in nature. But what is it? Let's talk about Death.

You use it everyday but probably never think about it. It reflects your culture, shapes your thoughts, and can modify behavior. What is language? How do we use it? Are we the only living things that have it? Do we need language in order to have thoughts? Let's talk about language.

We live by it, spend it, wish for more of it, waste it, but what is it? They say that time is relative but what does that mean? Let's spend, or waste, some time talking about time.

I know we had come up with some other topics, but I forgot what they were, so we are going with Eugene's topic. Are we alone? Is there life out there? How will we find it or is that even possible? What does it mean if there is life out there? Why do we care? Let's talk about extra-terrestrial life.

The age-old debate continues. Some say that genetics and what we are born with are the most powerful determinants of our lives, be it physical, mental, or even spiritual. Others say that how we are raised, the culture within which we live, and other social and environmental factors play a larger part in how we turn out. It's time for you to weigh in on the subject. Let's talk about nature versus nurture.

What is progress? It seems that people view progress as a positive whether it is applied to an individual, group, company, country or even the world. Is progress positive by its nature? What is wrong with staying still or even moving backwards? Is it possible to agree on whether progress has been made? Let's be progressive and talk about progress.
