I'm interested in philosophical activism, ethical integration, and community. What seems common to our group is that we want to leave the world a little better than we found it through thoughtfulness and altruism.
While no two people have the exact same purpose, there is a purpose that all people share. The purpose of life is to flourish; to live long and well. Furthermore, living well is about comfort but also about pain. Happiness mixed with struggle is what makes life worth living. I believe the universe has always existed, so a reason why it exists is not applicable.
Rather than being goal-oriented (such as striving for comfort or immortality), I consider myself challenge-oriented. I believe a good challenge makes me healthier and helps me appreciate life better, somewhat regardless of how my efforts turn out. For this reason I skateboard, take Tae Kwon Do, and try different things. Also, philosophy and morality help people live longer and better, so I try to help people develop their worldviews, which in itself helps me develop my own and enjoy life. This is why I run the Moralist Community and want to enhance thoughtful, benevolent community in general.
Most people want to flourish in life and that is inherently good. However, people are often misguided in how best to flourish. I am optimistic because I think a lot of good happens in the world that goes unnoticed amidst the bad, but I am progressive in that no matter how bad or good the world is, it could always be better.
We have been progressing well for the past couple months, building ideas from topic to topic along with some good friendships! I look forward to every 4th Monday!
